For those of us who get killed a lot..

Insurance...that you need to buy yourself. We know some stuff is covered, but how many times do we get things we like that isnt, and even though we could do stuff like this before, if done right, its worth mentioning that in Jumpgate Evolution having insurance sales in stations would be a good add. You could choose to put a small amount or a large amount on your ship, and get reimbersed for not being fast enough with a load of ore on to outrun the Pirate clans, lol. Maybe have seperate insurance for the ship and contents.

How better? It works pretty damn well if you ask me.

you either buy it, or you dont

Granted, I do wish for 100 ship/cargo option, but for some reason they decided not to give us that.

Well, that does make sense, sort of...so no matter what we wont get 100/100 for cargo and ship. Depends on what they do with the new game it wont be so bad, but if AI pirates exist along with real pirates, then the chances of frieghter captains being wasted more often is greater, so maybe they'll reconsider. If its not our fault then more options might be possible.

Because it's a winbutton . Insuring property at 100% is a ridiculous concept -- there's always deductible or co-insurance . . . in this case co-insurance.

@Chaser: the reason ship is insured together with cargo is that if you separated it, you would have 99% of everyone selecting it as the cost would be so relatively tiny.

Insurance could be made more interesting by having it be a dialog that opens up prior to each (civ) launch with additional factors including your faction, the destination and the pol climate between your faction and the destination. This would, of course, require using something like a BILL OF LADING for each shipment.

Re: For those of us who get killed a lot..

Ambro, we already pay that small deductable by them calculating the Insurance Rate (land/launch) into the percentage. You don't really get 75%, you get 75% with your insurance rating taken out of that 75, so if your IR is suck, then you get like 70....

Re: For those of us who get killed a lot..

No -- that would be the premium, not the deductible. And the additional amout paid from the IR is more like a "load" for unsafle flying (to put it in auto insurance parlance). But I can agree with you if you argue that the IR should be used to calculate premium instead of for calculating payout. i.e. Premium would equal: [[ current premium calc/IR ]]
