A Thought to Consider
TexMurphy made a statement in another thread that I think was insightful, and worth another look.
Quote:
An omelet isn't made by grabbing every good thing you can find in the fridge and throwing it together. You pick and choose. Scorch is reading these forums, and I know other devs are as well. The major thing we all need to keep in mind when making suggestions is that they value our input as vets, and so we need to be mindful to look twice at our ideas, and make sure that they fit the framework of Jumpgate's philosophy. Guys, just because Jumpgate died the first time doesn't mean Jumpgate's PHILOSOPHY is flawed. It just means the game didn't have what it needed at that point in time. The core philosophy of freedom, power to change the world, skill matters, possibility, etc, etc, etc, should be nurtured at all costs. a unique core framework with a great game around it is what sells. I looked it up, yesterday. Did you guys know that Jumpgate was released on Sept. 22, 2001? I couldn't think of a possible worse time to have a game on store shelves. |

Re: A Thought to Consider
There is nothing wrong with the free expression of ideas for the game. Just because one person doesn't like them doesn't mean it's not ok to express them. At least not on this site anyway. I would bet the devs at NetDevil themselves are looking at what works in other games as well.

Re: A Thought to Consider
A very good and valid point. On the flip side, I think a lot of people who played Jumpgate Classic knew what was wrong with the game and looking to change that in some respect to what they consider 'better'. In the end, ND will take what they want and make a game in the schedule they have. Anyone that thinks Jumpgate Evolution has priority over Lego Universe is smoking crack

Re: A Thought to Consider
Yes but they do have 8 devs full time. And the most important thing is they own the title out right. You can see in the interviews that they were convinced of this by others in the industry. Think of it, they do not have to pay a publisher or bow to their milestone schedules. I'm sure the whole industry is watching how NetDevil handles this and what the outcome will be. And I am also sure that this is obvious to them. So anyone who thinks they are not doing all they can to make this work is smoking crack.
NetDevil owning a title and going without a publisher is about as much of an game industry eye opener as it was for the movie industry when Peter Jackson made all three LOTR movies simultaneously. I can't wait to see how it turns out. And I sure hope it turns out well or it will never happen again. |

Sorta like why elections are a joke now. It's all about the noise and not the facts anymore, because nothing is ever thought through. |
