On the Topic of Music
Whoever made the music for Jumpgate Classic, don't take this the wrong way! I think that doing a higher quality job on the music would add a lot to the experience. Not that the music for Jumpgate Classic is 'bad'. It's just not up to snuff for the quality that we see coming in all the other aspects of the game.
Things I'd like to see: 1. Fully instrumented themes for each faction (specifically played on station, not techno (not that I don't like techno). 2. A different theme for each station space sector, then differing music for different areas of space, not just 'quant space' 'oct space' etc. 3. I'd really like event driven music. When you jump into the Edge play a 30 second theme, then move on to general sector music. When a bogey comes within a certain range, probably around 10k, bring in suspense music geared towards their type (pirate, factionalist, flux). If shots start being fired, or some other form of battle detection, bring up battle music. 4. In order to keep varying themes from becoming dreadfully repetitive, let us set a 'jukebox directory' that the game will randomly grab .mp3s from. Basically, loop sector themes through 3-5 times (depending on their length i suppose), and then switch to the jukebox. Put in a couple options for bypassing sector and/or event driven music for people who just want to listen to their music. One of the things that helps immerse me in the Final Fantasy games is how awesome the music is at supporting the action/emotion that is happening. With how good everything else is looking, having a great music system in place would make greatness legendary. |

Re: On the Topic of Music
I'm sure I am in the minority but I turn all music off or way down in games. It's too distracting to me. But I agree, each sector having it's own drumbeat would be a good idea. The background music/noise can make a game. I still hear that methodical increasing tempo of those Space Invaders of so long ago.

Re: On the Topic of Music
I'm sure in a pretty early thread Scorch said the same guy was doing the music that did it for Jumpgate Classic. Too full of cold to search tho.
It was in response to people here praising the original music, and I kinda agree with them.Smeg |

Re: On the Topic of Music
The original oct techno was bad, really bad
![]() I would suggest a system like the one it was implemented in Bandits: Phoenix Rising. They had basically a set of songs per region and music styles, if you didnt like the music on that section you could tune another music style and keep going. It was very neat. ELP |

Re: On the Topic of Music
· 6-8 instrumental music tracks 2-4 minutes in length with fade in and out.
· 3 instrumental action tracks for combat music. These tracks should randomly loop for the duration of combat. · The options to adjust background music volume where the lowest setting turns the music off all together. · Option to loop music or play once per sector. · Option to loop combat music or play once. · Ability to add your own music. I know a simple MP3 player does the trick but if it’s integrated in the game, the game can control when the music gets played. If you want to use another player, simply set music volume setting to 0 so no ingame music plays. |

Re: On the Topic of Music
Smegit, I do like the Jumpgate Classic music. However, compared to top-notch games (which Jumpgate Evolution will be) it's just not up to snuff. I'm ok with the same person doing the music again. I'd think that with several years more experience under his belt, his compositions will be much better than what he had the first go round (which was decent, as I said above.) Really, I am mostly clamoring for event driven music (battle music and other stuff) and a jukebox directory setting. Jumpgate Classic already plays mp3s from the Jumpgate directory, so i'd think it wouldn't be too hard to allow a user defined alternate directory to redirect to after a certain number of loops have been completed in the background music.

Re: On the Topic of Music
Thanks. I probably wouldn't like it anyway. I've actually tried listening to JPR while I fly and I have to say I don't much care for music while I'm flying.
