Tourism
One thing I'd love, would be some purely recreational spots in Jumpgate Evolution. An enormous asteroid riddled with caverns, for pilots to test their skills. Huge crystalline formations which we could fly around to show off the lighting algorithms. Things which are just fun, to allow players to have a fun way to blow off some steam.
I know it's not a crucial element, and people won't play because of tourism if they wouldn't otherwise play. But it would flesh out the universe, and might be one of the many things that people might look for and encourage exploration off the beaten track. What do people think of this? And what other tourist destinations would you fly out to see? |

Re: Tourism
Cool with me. Would avoid the "avatar" stuff that so many other "recreational" ideas require. I'm not opposed to it, just not sure it would be worth the coding.

Not just hollow roids but something you can fly through and get lost in. Like in Star Wars. They might get mad if you copy the space worm though.

Re: Tourism
There was a game a long while ago where a guy was sent exploring. One of the things he found turned into a tourist attraction...a field of large, rare chrystals, they were mineable for his mission, but never after that. They were gorgious, white, red, blue just randomly floating around, it was called a freak of nature and was restricted to tourist flights. Stuff like that would be cool if no war was going on, but no matter where it was in a time of war it would be pretty dangerous for tourists.

Re: Tourism
human avatars expecially outside space ships are overrated.
i treat a game as a game. and jumpgate and it's series are designed to have a twitchable space ship as the avatar. nothing more. your supposed to spend time in space, not inside stations. and besides, adding walkable human avatars inside stations takes away a user's imagination to be whoever he wants to be and to be forced as another human character being instead of a robot that either looks like mr. destructoid, or an alien/animal like character. i xplaned about this on the unpopular planetjge forums. |

Re: Tourism
I'm with rotate. Incorporating avatars would just be an obscene amount of code to create a piece of game which is wholly different from the rest of Jumpgate Evolution, and will be inferior to any game which makes avatar-oriented interaction its focus.
Fewerer avatars, more crystal roids with netburnrol waiting to grief the noobs. |

Re: Tourism
This is a great idea, what I would like to see is in one or two sectors, is a giant black hole, with an event horizon. The idea would be to 'surf' the horizon's grav waves. Multicolored lights and all that. Random direction shifts so it feels like you are really riding the waves. One possible outcome, you fly into close and blow up. Another is that you fling out the other side at a massive velocity. But the third possibIlity is that you get flung into either a twinned black hole across the map, or into a random sector.
But thats just me. It would be fun to try and lead a strike group back behind enemy lines, using this highly dangerous method though. |
