Re: Tournaments....
Well, while driving to the store about an hour ago I came to the realization that the Jumpgate Evolution announcement will bring back quite a few vets, if not to beta test Jumpgate Evolution, then to at least tool around in Jumpgate Live, it's feasable that we'd have enough people in the coming weeks to organize another WoW, that's up to WileE though.

Re: Tournaments....
I don't see how it's up to WileE, anyone can organize an event. It just takes someone willing to put forth the time and effort.
That being said, I'd love to see another WoW, but with our current numbers it doesn't seem that feasable. I'd also love to see ND do another re-evaluation program and give people 10 free days which could hopefully regenerate some interest in the game (and perhaps if it was planned on the same weekend as a WoW then we'd have enough people for it). |

Re: Tournaments....
At the risk of sounding Microsoftian, it's a feature, not a bug.
![]() Seriously, even if it is entirely OOC, WoW (which might need to be renamed if we start drawing the Warcraft crowd... ) was some of the best fun I had shooting at stuff, specifically because I got to fly with/against pilots that I wouldn't normally be flying with/against due to RP.Also, with OOC interactions like that, there's less of a tendency to respond to an IC action with an OOC flame, as you get a chance to find that the person behind the stick isn't a butthead OOC as well as IC. And, really, the community is the best (as well as worst, but that's another thread ) part of Jumpgate. Anything that helps stimulate the feeling that one is actually part of a community of fellow fans is, IMO, a good thing. |

Re: Tournaments....
Hmm yeah. The last WOW was great, it really brought the community together. Oh no wait it didnt.
Can we have written rules this time please ?. Im with Eraser. I dont like WOW its OOC. But sadly that seems to be the norm on the WWS. |

Re: Tournaments....
Instead of just trowing a whole weekend on an event that is purely OOC.. Why not instead create great RP events that follow the storyline where All pilots can be involved.
I had some great time doing RP events on EU, with sents/Tri officers/ and other storyline figures. It was fun, and rewarding to be a part of something that moves the storyline. Last 3 days on EU was like WoW. It was fun with much action. But I felt like I was playing an Online shooter( battlefield) and not a MMORPG. |

Re: Tournaments....
No one is suggesting we don't have RP events with good stories and such, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't run OOC events as they are a good way to get to know your enemy and to just have fun in general. It's not like it's something we do every weekend. When they were being run it was generally something like twice a year?

Re: Tournaments....
I honestly think that Jumpgate could have survived as a Quake in Space, WoW all the time, game. Look at FPS's like CounterStrike or Call of Duty. You have some options, you fight, and people keep playing.
I'm not saying that's what I want for Jumpgate Evolution though, I'm just saying that the combat was fun enough to play for at least a year without having to go mine or flux or whatnot. |

Re: Tournaments....
However, none of those games require that you pay for playing them online, nor do they present static (well, relatively speaking) universes that keep a history, so to speak. When you (generic "you") pay nothing, you tend to not be as picky about the fine details like "no real economy" or "can't just jump right back into the action after gankage", especially when the game's inherent design focuses on fast-paced action where instant gratification is possible.
