Tutorial Based Missions

Just a wild thought...

One of the areas of Jumpgate that I personally thought had a bit of a steep learning curve, was cargo missions, and what was involved in producing certain items....

A lot of this may be my own ignorace but I never made the connection as to why I never did see a cargo mission to bring "Water" for example to Wake Station when TRI was spamming f5:chat with Wake Station is in great need of Water.... Maybe I just missed it but, if Wake Station was in such a great need of water, why was there no mission for it? Again, im sure there was a reason why it was designed this way or I am missing something...

Also, I understood the logic of what materials were needed and basically where to go to make certain items such as Flash Fires, engines, missles ect....

But this was something that was not in any book, or training manual...

Maybe to help ease the learning curve for new players Jumpgate Evolution could implement Tutorial based missions to assist the players in learning the different ways a pilot can choose to make his careeer in Jumpgate Evolution.

or maybe this is already in the works and I should go back to my hole...

They have said they are planing a easier learning curve. Still, didn't you learn all that stuff as part of your relationship with your squad, such as -=MACK=-? And isn't that interaction why you're still hanging around?

I hope they make it easier to learn the game but not easy to the point that players don't need each other.

Nobody has played it. They have merely flown around in it and whatever simple things they have so far. They have said repeatedly that they haven't coded or decided much of it yet. That much of it is still like the old game. Don't confuse the easier to learn flight model with a complex economy system which is what Diver is referring to.

what!!! SHES SAID IT HERSELF THAT IF SHE CAN PLAY THE GAME ANYONE CAN! -_- i hope she doesnt come around for a while. teehee.

well one of the hardest things to do effectively in Jumpgate Classic is fricking flying and she's got the hang of it in Evo.

Is that on easy pilot mode or the way it's meant to be pilot mode?

I guess it's a matter of perspective then. I always found piloting the ship easy. Hitting targets with guns was another story though. The details of the economy were the fun things. Figuring it all out and getting stuff where it was needed for battle was the best.

From a tutorial perspective, one of the thing i liked about Jumpgate was that you had the learn stuff the hard way. The basics should be covered by something, but in depth economic manipulation is something you should come to yourself IMO. The information for that kind of thing is available in JGO albeit mostly on 3rd party sites, this is something i feel JOSSH could have done better but so long as there is enough information for people to get a good grasp of the basics, then interaction and self education should be part of the whole experience. The sense of accomplishment in doing something is lessoned IMO if you are fed everything on a silver platter so to speak.

As an good example of tutorials, download the Evochron Renegades game;

Freeform Space Combat / Trader and Mercenary Simulator (PC Space-Sim) - Evochron Renegades

Its tutorial is sweet.

It tells you how to move, navigate, dock, fight and gives some tips on how to do missions. Its neither sucky or snide, neither officious or superior. That's how a tutorial should be I think.

Thats really where I was attempting to go with this. Basics such as flying, navigation, ect...

Im not looking for everything to be explained in great detail, just an easier beginning for new pilots that have never flown in this type of environment before...

I like the idea of economy missions to help people learn how the economy works. I still don't know how any of that stuff works....
