Re: A twist on civ-ripping
Its about ratio. Only a small percentage of online players PvP. The smaller the overall number gets, the less people there are to PvP. There was nothing wrong with PvP it was the lack of players that ment there was no one PvPing. People didnt stop PvPing because they messed with the PvP model.
People stopped playing because there is nothing fun or entertaining to do unless you like mining or fluxing. |

Re: A twist on civ-ripping
and pvp'ing doesnt come easy either.
Everyone bangs on about consequences in Jumpgate Classic and rather than being a lure to attract players in, it is a stick to beat them off with. A player tries out pvp, he goes MT and starts doing mt missions, shooting other MT etc... Then the people he is fighting as a mil (and often THE very ones bemoaning the lack of pvp'rs) start threatening and shooting at his civ squad mates in retribution for being shot at by the MT..... Tada... Bravo... Thick! That is an own goal again by the pvp crowd as that player then drops the tags as fast as possible and doest dabble with pvp again, nor do any of his squadmates. And that is a history lesson not fantasy. If people want people to pvp against, they need to pvp against people who want to pvp and the only way to do that is to have no civ ripping in reg because otherwise your reaping the fruit before it is ready and it tastes bitter. |

Re: A twist on civ-ripping
and round and round and round.
To the topic, however, it doesn't necessarily have to be a 'magic wand' situation. maybe we are all too dumb to think of a RP way to spin it. But, after all, us pilots are 'magic wanded' back to the station. Perhaps our POD has a tractor beam attached to the cargo pod. perhaps there is an AI crew assigned to bring cargo back under certain situations (pilot is under level X, pilot is civ, pilot is pretending to be a girl and we think we have a chance to score). if it's something that might help with retention, surely we can figure out a way to explain it... |

Re: A twist on civ-ripping
That’s one thing I did like about Eve, when you went boom you lost your ship but you the pilot stayed in your pod *inset Jumpgate Evolution escape shuttle/pod* and you had to fly back to a station, but your ship now a bunch of twisted metal and leaking plasma could be salvaged for equipment and cargo. Not all of it and some of it was broken, but you still have the chance of getting something back.

![]() If I could call you a name and use curse words I would, but I'm going to be "nice". There was PLENTY wrong with PvP, just because YOU don't see it, doesn't mean it was there. I could start a whole new thread about what people thought ND broke with PvP when they started adding all these new tags and rules of engagement, but I won't. People stopped PvPing for many reasons. For some it was lack of time to make money to support it, for others it was boredom of fighting the same people, for others it was their inability to survive after taking lame actions and getting put on everyone's KOS (this is the reason -=Gotcha=- stopped pirating, could not afford to be on perm bounty). PvP was not all roses man, we had our fair share of problems that went ignored. Quote:
I like this a lot better than some magic system where the cargo just appears back in your ship. Go get it yourself or it will disappear. |

Re: A twist on civ-ripping
@Lordo: Far as I remember the enemy could also destroy the pod, thats why you had the abiity to buy a 'clone' of you just in case you were to be killed (in the pod). Clone's had a max ammount of experience they could save, anything over that you would lose (unless you were actively upgrading to a better clone and such).
But yes, I like the idea of flying back to the station. Perhaps, to avoid being killed and such, make the pod very fast but unarmed and with zero cargo. ELP |
