Re: Two week turnoff

As I originally said, IMO the problem was lack of "story arc support" -- which remains a problem. I'm not sure if two week rules are needed. Things like the whole IJ arc simply can't drop into a black hole for 6 or more months . . . then resuscitate . . . then disappear again . . . |

Re: Two week turnoff
Dail got my intention correct.
And. 2 weeks in an online game where you log in virtually every night is a long time to wait for the potential to be made available to repair damage done to something you want to use - given that it could still take time to get the thing back once the potential to fix it has arrived. 2 weeks if you log in just at weekends or just 1 or 2 times a week, seems like it isn't long at all. It is the weekend warriors who need to balance their desire for glorious continuity of action, with continuity of logging-in and respect that when they aren't there the rest of the community is and things need to move on. The pace of the game must be maintained. Like a whirligig beetle on a pond, I feel that player actions should create ripples on the surface of the game, ripples that flow, distort and are distorted by, the ripples created by other players. The only ones with ability to eradicate the myriad of ripples with a great boulder driven splash should be Game officials working towards the bigger picture. Of course, a truly player driven galaxy would allow for the players to instigate the repair of destroyed environmentals, the moment that they were driven to do so. |

Re: Two week turnoff
I also like the multiple FM idea. There's no real reason why a faction cannot have multiple projects going.
Also the timing of FM additions should be tied to in-game events. If the tensy yard is destroyed does anyone honestly think that Solrain would wait 2 weeks to get something going, 48 hours might be closer and the commods would be delivered in a day. Then the construction phase might take a week, but 2 weeks later the yard would be operational again. I've been a fan of Jumpgate Classic for 5 years and I keep coming back because the mix of realism and playability was/is the best I have experienced in an online game. That mix needs to continue so having a static timeline on anything is IMO, a bad idea. |
