I don't think WB is suggesting that total n00bs be left in the dark completely. I would think that all pilots would get the map of the main sector for their faction and perhaps the next lot of sectors one jump away but then they would either need to buy more, or explore. I don't think that is unreasonable or too difficult and would add depth and realism IMO.
I like the idea of maps that are tradeable and exploration as a career option. I'm all for this. |

[Istvan] Astraeus, we may start with fewer sectors than we have in Jumpgate Classic now. But we're very seriously considering a system whereby players build connections to new sectors.
[Istvan] The map would expand as the game gets older if this is added. [Astraeus] now thats a sweet idea ist [Istvan] Astraeus, the idea has been around for a few year. I never was able to make it happen in Jumpgate Classic, but at least it's now being considered for Jumpgate Evolution. |

An expanding universe with exploration posibilities, very nice. I like the idea that not everything is in a small square or circle near the gates. There may be really rare roids out there, or artys that no one has ever seen, it would be fun.

Very intersting, I look forward to seeing how they would like to implement it.
So the in game map to a new person will be like 1/3 full with only the faction space mapped, and then maybe the first unreg sector surrounding. Then when you jump into an unknown sector the paths to other sectors will show up, and depending on which gate you take out, and new sector will be mapped with its connectiosn as well? thats exactly how it works in Escape Velocity. And then of coarse if there were a station to buy stuff in the unknown sector, you could land and buy a map, and then you would know the next 2 or 3 jumps. Except EV had a station in almost every sector, where the Jumpgate we know does not. |

This sounds very interesting. But it all depends on how they implement this.
As we cant have million new sectors every day, then it cannot be to easy to find new sectors. But making it to hard will not be attractive to players at all. And if it is all up to devs if new sectors are available or not then whats the point of exploring for them when they are going to come anyway.. Like those new equip FM we had.. I never cared, cause I knew they will be available eventually.. |

Eraser it doesn't have to be completely "new", just "new to you". It doesn't matter if a million people have been there before you, it's still going to be "your first time" (shakes his head...this reminds me of so many BAD cliches and ad lines!).
If you ARE the first player to go there, then you should receive some kind of reward or recognition. Not sure exactly how it would work, but it would be a nice thing IMO. |
