How do you get better stuff from controlling a certain resource? You just don't have outright access to it, but you can fight for it. It doesn't give anyone some massive advantage.

Ah well, I assumed the usual crowd would disagree because you want to pansify what is otherwise a good game.

Simple make sure at least two places have the same thing on opposite sides of the map

That way the same squad cant control both because of the distance.

If you control the only supply of that resource, then you control any equipment produced by that resource. Maybe I'm misunderstanding. Are the resources to be controlled not used in production?

It seems that when someone brings up a point that may not agree with your vision, you go into 'attack dog' mode.

Very likely, an allied squad could control the other spot, maintaining the monopoly.

Normal roids will still give natural resources but it will require FAR more work to get tier 1 commodities through these non-pure specimens than in a sector that has a concentration.
Reading comprehension for the win? Those resources will still be available, just more difficult to come by.

And you can fight for the resources!!!! You can attempt to take control of them from the current squad in control. If they are too powerful then you can make allies. Why is it such a bad thing that PvPers have an actual reason to fight?

Hey guess what? You, dailatron, vorlon, lordopic, etc. all do the same thing. QQ more.

Eventually, as the losers ally with other losers, a Zerg alliance will form, take over the resources. The key to preventing this is to make the side that controls the resources weaker, not stronger.

At no point did I say that having an actual reason to fight was a bad thing. I'd say it's a good thing actually. I'm not sure where you got this idea from.

Out of that entire list, the only attack dog I see is you. It's a good thing for you there is no active moderator on these boards.

Controlling the resources doesn't give a super OP advantage over everyone else, so I really don't see how this is necessary. Sure they will control a commodity which may limit what you can access for equipment, but the commodities will still be available and I'm going off the assumption that Jumpgate Evolution will not be the same as Jumpgate Classic in terms of equipment (ie. multiple choices of each type of equipment will be present so not having access to a couple wont make you unable to fly).

You shoot down every good PvP suggestion.

lol that's great. You can believe all you want with your selective reading. I've seen people attack just as much if not more than I have.

If (and I think this is big if) controlling the resources gives no advantage in PvP then it's fine.

On the other hand, if controlling resources makes your side stronger, then it's a recipe for stagnant PvP dominated by one side.

Sure it gives you an advantage, but it isn't the dominating advantage you seem to believe it would be (so long as ND balances equipment well).

Re: Unreg and how to make it better.

I don't think it will work then. We already have enough problems keeping new PvPers from getting discouraged and quitting after they lose 10 fights in a row. This would just make it worse for them.

How would this make it worse from them? So what if a group has control over a commodity or two. All that means is they control the production on a few other tier 2 commods which means they could, in effect limit the equipment available to certain people. But if ND balances the game properly then that equipment wont be 100% necessarily like say Guzzlers or Sport+ are for the Tensy in Jumpgate Classic. It doesn't give some godly advantage to one side, they will have to defend it as well. It wont just be something they have indefinately.

If you don't give meaning to PvP then the PvPers will get bored and leave. Giving meaning also means that the PvPers should be rewarded with more than just a +1 kill stat for doing well and they can fight each other over resources which means the carebears get left alone more frequently.

It doesn't have to be a godly advantage. When the best PvPers will gain control, any additional advantage creates a problem.

Just make the reward something besides a power-up, but still has meaning.
