Actually, that's not a bad idea. An in-game flight acrobatics competition, some sort of timed obstacle course where everyone has to fly it in the starter ship with no equipment. There could be all sorts of fun RP associated with it, of course. And anything which gets lots of players together in the same place is a good thing (except for server loads).
