I Sent off a few questions to the support email to see what kind of response I would get. Late tonight I got a reply from the mystery person and learned it's a mystery group. And there is even mystery among the group. The translations went fairly well and I touched up some of the grammar where the meaning was obvious. It's a difficult thing communicating without a translator. Their person on the support email seems to be the one that is working on the web development. The rest of them who knows. It's a mystery behind the mystery. Anyway, here are the question and answers. I hope you enjoy it. 1. Were you a former player? And if so, were you on the EU server or the US server? Yes, I play long enough Jumpgate but unfortunately I had to play only on the US server, EU I just did not find. So know that there were only fragmentary paraphrases friends. 2. Are you playing Jumpgate now or has fixing bugs taken all your time? Yes I'm playing, but it takes more time official job, although I'd like to devote more time Jumpgate. 3. What is your programming background? I have been part of the web Jumpgate and everything related to the API for external developers. In this project, it is my primary duty. In general programming is my hobby and work at the same time, so always have affairs. 4. When you play Jumpgate do you like to PVP or do you prefer the economic game? For me it is a very complicated issue, and I like all PvP and PvC and mining and the economy, so from time to time I have classes. For that I love and then you can play Jumpgate however you want, today trader tomorrow warrior, then peace builder. I do not need to limit myself and that's fine. 5. Do you have the full server code or have you had to create it? I do not know exactly who the server administrator is. I only work on a web part. I receive data I spread them where so I do not know all the details about the game server. If I will shine in these details I'll be glad to tell about it until I find some of the questions are not worth asking if they do not answer initially. When someone wants to reveal all the secrets he will do in the meantime let everything remains as it is. 6. Do you have any plans to update the Jumpgate client since it seems to be the cause of most issues? Yes but not now have other plans and thus very little time. 7. Do you have any plans to alter the game in any way such as adding or removing different aspects of Jumpgate? There are some plans for Conflux but what I do not say. 8. What type and how many servers is Jumpgate currently running on? Two servers, one game second Web. 9. Are you a single individual or is there a team working on this? Have a team, but one of the tenets of the team says "stealth" so I do not know how many more people there than in the team and everyone is busy, perhaps we may even work in the same office and do not know about it. 10. How do you personally feel about the great Player Owned Station debate? Debaters should argue today that something is wrong with their vzgyald posami, tomorrow it will seem that it is necessary to do dungeons and PvP merchants for the day after something like that then. POS for a long time and there is nothing wrong with them not see. General ideas always seem nice... 11. Do you have a list of goals for your work on Jumpgate and if so can you share some of that list so players can know what to expect in the future? My task is to transfer all the information from the old to the new site JOSSH, and possibly add a new example on the plan are now squads and probably you will see vblizhayshem budschem Jumpgate map on the website, which will check the game situation. 12. What are the biggest obstacles you are finding while working on the server code? I do not work with the server code, but from what I hear it's pretty confusing. 13. Are you encouraged by the community response to bringing Jumpgate back online? Yes, we are very excited about the current situation, we did not expect such a large number of players, and we are very happy. Work has been done for good reason. 14. If you have anything else you would like to say to the community please do so. I'd like to express my gratitude to the great game developers, they managed to do that at the moment no one could neither improve nor repeat, they are the best. Well, I would like to say thank you to all the community Jumpgate for what it is, I really enjoy spending time together in Jumpgate, thank you.
I find it interesting that there is apparently some form of group effort behind this. You can read a lot into it and the translations can be iffy but it's quite apparent that this is a concerted effort by more than one person. Attempting to unveil the mystery has brought more mysteries.
Nice. They dont seem too concerned about POS's. Hopefully they will remain open minded about some tweaks to them in the future. They mentioned doing something with the conflux... probably in relation to GM controlled events/RP - but maybe something more? They mentioned the server code is confusing. Maybe they have access to it? Or maybe the db/admin configuration was confusing to figure out? Hmmmm
Istvan always said it was confusing. Didn't he say it was procedural? I won't even look at spaghetti code anymore.
Ohhh, I too had some questions for them! *steals thunder* Jumpgate Resurrection Q&A: Nagging the Necromancers | Space Game Junkie
Where do we send the contributions to? I'd pay $25 dollars to be level 26. Or should I just assume they already have my Pay pal info? Guess I'll have to give another couple thousand to buy more SC ships, Alpha coming in 2022!
I'd just like to post a big thank you to the mysterious people behind this iteration of JG. It is amazing what you have all accomplished and I find it truly amazing that you even plan on making upgrades. I it is understand that for all the debating going on concerning the state of the game, one thing holds certain: The Jumpgate community loves you! We look forward to the squad system coming back, and whatever else you decide to tackle. I'll leave other thoughts for changes to other posts. So again, THANK YOU! -Tez
You might have noticed in the reply to question 11 that there is a hint of a live map on the web. That might be cool to see the weather or swarms before you login.
These people seem simply awesome. Even if they do not manage to improve anything on the game it self, we should all be thankful for just managing to bring it back online. I never bought Jumpgate, it was free by the time I started playing, only paid subscribtion. But this always bothered me with purchasing only online games, when the official servers close down, should not the company behind the game give out the server code to the fans so those who bought the game can still play it?
Whilst I can appreciate and understand this kinda appeal and the enthusiasm behind it there are a lot more problems that arise from such situations: You end up with a number of 'bootleg' (I dont suppose that word is necessary in this context) projects from different sources all effectively competing against each other and so many are left to rot. The community may have excellent intentions, but with such projects, voluntary development needs a strong management which is often very stressful and leads to much burnout and frustration. With a large community/number of volunteers the probability for disagreement and controversy increases exponentially and ultimately this situation can become extremely toxic. This is all completely aside from the IP/copyright and rights to the content as a whole which may be kept on ice pending future interest/development at a later date when the industry climate & technological potential changes* When JG first 'died' (For real not the changeover to NetDevil and before the resurgence of JGClassic) it was an expensive and painstaking task, highly specialised to host and run a gameserver of that kind of magnitude - I'm not saying that just anyone can do it now, but it's a lot more feasible and the technologies and costs are more accessible now - the advantage of such an old game structure in todays' environment. There were plans for JGE which lasted a couple of years before finally vapourising - this would have relied heavily on certain IP's from the original JG and as such, there would be no reason for a company like ND to give such stock away, even if they had currently little use for much of it - who knows what the future might bring? If the above quoted situation HAD occurred, do you believe JG would be available and supported now? Would someone have carried it all these years in between and maintained in a fashion bereft of drama and controversy? --- *This is kinda happening now (over the last couple of years) as multiplayer online games have become much more a focus once again and the sci-fi / space-sim is gaining a popularity it never had prior to Eve-Online and has been encouraged gradually with many smaller projects and a couple of bigger ones like Roberts Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous and the X Series.
When we had discussions with Gaz, they said they could not simply release the code to all allegedly because their was proprietary third-party code within it.
