Welcome our new Executive Producer: Lance Robertson

I've got some very exciting news to share with you today about the growing development team on Jumpgate Evolution.

We've been actively hiring people for the last few months, expanding the team as we move towards Beta and launch. In the coming months we'll be introducing you to them, but I wanted to start with an announcement about someone we're really excited to have onboard.

Please join me and the rest of the team in welcoming Lance Robertson, who has joined the Jumpgate Evolution team as our new Executive Producer!

Lance has been in the business for more than 10 years, including stints as Art Lead and Art Director on Dark Age of Camelot for Mythic Entertainment. From there he rose through the studio to ultimately be responsible for the entire DAoC franchise, shipping every expansion until Catacombs in 2004. There are very few people in the MMOG development industry with such a unique background and wealth of experience.

When Mythic picked up the Warhammer license, Lance founded the team and eventually shipped the product as Senior Producer. While you may not have seen him in the media as much as other Mythic team members, Lance was a core part of the studio, and we feel extremely lucky to have him onboard here at NetDevil.

One of the reasons I'm excited to have Lance work on Jumpgate Evolution is his extensive experience and knowledge in how to create a PvP and PvE focused game. With three nations and massive scale PvP, Jumpgate has always been similar in design to DAoC, making Lance a perfect fit for JGE. He's already brought some great new ideas to the table, although the core game remains the same. I know he feels that he's learned lessons in his career that'll help us make Jumpgate even better.

I'm sure you've got a million questions for Lance and we're going to hold a community Q&A in the coming weeks so he can answer at least some of those. In the meantime I want to assure you that we're still on track to deliver the game we've always wanted to make, and that I know you're going to love. Lance, and all the other people we've hired recently, are here to get Jumpgate Evolution to the finish line!

Please join me in welcoming Lance!

Thanks for the update! It's always nice to know whats happening over at ND.

    However, I have a couple of observations/thoughts...

    1) They must give up the right to call it a 'development team'. From now on, it is to be called a "Development-challenged team'. If you haven't developed anything except press releases for 2 years, you are challenged. At best.

    2) No more dice-roll executives. I'm sure they are very pretty in their suites and ties. (Especially that Looney-Tunes tie they wear on casual Fridays. It's darling... we know, already.) But when I get in my first freighter and buy a Cargo Hold of Hauling +3, and see little dice spin in the lower corner of the HUD whenever I try to launch, I'm going to die a little on the inside.

    3) Stop telling us there is a beta product. We know you are lying. We all know this is not a development process, it's a marketing process. So from now on, you are no longer releasing a BETA, you are releasing a HYPE. There is the Friends and Family HYPE, then the wider-released VIP HYPE, and someday there might even be an Open Enrollment HYPE. Hopefully, arthritis won't have removed my ability to work a joystick by that time.

    4) We don't have a million questions. Frankly, we don't believe anything you might respond with, anyway. Sure, at one time we thought we could trust something you said, but now we know better. You rank with politicians and lawyers. We will continue to speculate, you will continue to run your HYPE program, and someday, possibly, a game will launch that many of us will play in. So maybe there is one question we might have... "When?". Yes, we know.... Someday(tm).

Well they have hired a producer, for a game that was to be released in 4 days? ND Don't you think you should have done that a couple of years ago, just an idea

In that same thread kathe wrote.

"Lance replaces Dan Elggren who was hired earlier in the year to be Senior Producer on Jumpgate Evolution, and who has since been promoted to Studio Head of NetDevil."

Wasn't scorch the head of net devil? or did they create a new title for Dan?

Well what happened to Hermann is:

A Fond Farewell - Jumpgate Evolution Forums

    He is out!

This news makes me very happy. I don't know if Lance will be any better, but honestly he could not possibly be any worse. Every time Herman answered a question I became a little less intelligent myself and I became more depressed about the possibility of even a passable game being released.

The guy may have been passionate about the game, but from square one he displayed a shocking and profound misunderstanding of what and whom this game should be aiming at.

I just wish this would have happened about 2 years ago. We may be too far down the course to fix it now.

Once again I have no idea if Lance will be an improvement, but at least I can have some hope again til the new guy crushes it with some lame analogy about needing a new TV every 6 months; or how pirating is bad because it makes people sad on the inside.

No. With cats, you throw them into a pot of boiling water so for 15 seconds so you can peel their skin off easily. Then you nuke them.

Perhaps this is the new Gadzillion strategy. If you have nothing to offer, keep bringing in new people and dumping others to make it look like actual change is being accomplished. It still won't get the game out any quicker but in lieu of actual progress it will give the plebians something to talk about. I'd be much more reluctant to see Hermann go had he actually gotten the game out first.

I agree with Roheryn on all points. Jump, I don't think Hermann was afraid of us; I think he really didn't much give a damn about us and it showed. I don't much care myself as to who's in the driver's seat, I just want to know..."are we there yet?". From where I sit there ain't nothing but a bunch of empty West Texas highway ahead with an occasional tumbleweed blowing across the road. Somebody wake me up when the scenery changes.
